Low Maintenance Hair Color with a Big Impact

My sister and I live 4 hours away. We usually talk everyday, but I still miss her terribly. Last weekend was a treat as I got to visit her and do her hair. Can you believe she’s patient enough to wait for me to do her hair? That’s got to be true love, right? Luckily, she loves the have her hair as low maintenance as possible. How do I do that? With the bayalage technique, of course. Instead of lightning her hair with foils and creating a really harsh line, I hand paint her hair to create a customized look. She’ll come in to touch up her hair about every 6 month. Sounds amazing, right? I thought I’d share the before and after this last time we colored her.

Kylee loves to create dimension using her natural hair color. Typically, we use caramel highlights to do that, but I decided to add blonder pieces in her hair. You got to go lighter in the summer, right?! If you look at her hair closely, the pieces are light, but they look even lighter because I added a dark low light into the hair. The lighter pieces reflect off the darker pieces more, giving more depth and dimension. She loves to add texture to her hair and this new color is highlighted with these amazing curls.

My client likes to have caramel pieces through out her hair. We added blonder pieces at her last session.

Going lighter with your hair doesn’t need to be complicated. A few lighter pieces can have a bigger impact than a full head of highlights, if done just right. Talk to your stylist about what you’re looking for and they can help you achieve the same look. Of course if you live in the Salt Lake area, I would love to do your color as well.

A dark low light next to a blonde piece helps the color to stand out.

Do you like to go lighter in the summer? I always think it’s fun to change things up.
